I agree with WINEGUYX's and the previous three tasting notes. This wine truly is an amazing aromatics experience while perfumed and musty at the same time. Unfortunately, the bountiful bouquet doesn't transfer to the somewhat austere palate (not "pallet"). It's earthy and rustic with dusty, drying tannins and a great qpr @ $30/bottle. More fruit would warrant a higher (two points) score.

This 10 years old Barolo has its obvious red fruity flavours complemented by notes of vanilla and licorice, while the tannins are rather dusty and drying. The fruits are fairly complex and deep, still preserving freshness with its aromatic acidity. At the same time there clearly is some evolution, deepening and broadening the flavour profile. In the words of my spouse: this wine looks and tastes brown. I get what she means by that. In conclusion: a nice, very good Barolo, that can still age, but falling short of excellence. Somehow I was hoping for some more from a 2013 Barolo.

Started to spend more effort on Barolo about 3 years ago. Still evolving in the journey. Picked this up on the secondary market.
Double decanted for sediment, there was not much of that, and to give it some air. Enjoyed during a winter blizzard in the late afternoon. Some violet and tar on the nose with dried fruit notes. Good acid on the pallet with cranberry, sour cherry and tar. It continued to improve with more air. Will give it a longer decant next time. Cruising along at this point so not hurry.

rose, spice box and forest floor on the nose. Dark cranberry with spice box and forest floor on the pallet. Friendly tannins. Drink or hold.
