Magnificent 6 Ride Again: Blind. Licorice, charcoal, plenty of oak as well. Not generous or open on the palate, I feel like this is a 50/50 bet whether it opens up or just remains heavily oaked and shut down otherwise.

Great! Dark red color. Nose full of flowers, with a clear note of roses and violet, some lavender and then also ripe fruits like strawberry and peach. After a while also mint and eucalyptus become clearly distinguishable. Flavour is like promised by the scents: red fruits, mint, with an initial sweet note that evolves, delivering to the tongue flavours of tobacco and chocolate. There was a bit of deposit, so we had to filter the content of the bottle. Also, being summer, we had to cool it down to let it reach the right service temperature, which was a very important step to fully appreciate the wonderful bouquet of this wine. Tannins were elegant and gentle, they completed and rounded the long finish on the palate.

Moderately translucent dark cherry with the slightest touch of dark maroon. Rich, opulent, dark-toned and even a bit meaty nose with aromas of licorice, smoke, game, dark cherry, some minty notes, a little plum jam, hints of crushed dark berries and a whiff of medicinal alcohol. Very rich, full-bodied and obviously very ripe palate with velvety flavors of cocoa, dark chocolate, sweet dark cherry, some licorice and a sweet undercurrent of dark berry jam. Rather high acidity with ripe, modest tannins that are starting to resolve but still have some grippy quality to them. Dense and chewy finish with very persistent, layered flavors of sweet plummy fruit, dark cherry, some chocolate oak, a little vanilla and a hint of licorice.
A classy and harmonious, yet quite showy modernist Barolo with lots and lots of ripe, dark-toned fruit and some obvious, sweet oak characteristics. Despite its age of 12 years, the oak hasn't integrated much and the wine seems too sweet, plump and oaky for a classic Nebbiolo with very mellow, unobtrusive tannins. High-quality stuff, obviously, but not my cup of tea - this wine tasted more of new world winemaking than anything I enjoy in a Barolo. Might get better with age, but it will certainly take more time.

Double blind. Licorice, soap, juniper, cool mentholated fruit. Some EtOH poking through, very astringent tannin, gum-drying. Youthful and fairly tough still, my guess was youngish Nebbiolo, but picking between Barolo and Barbaresco is difficult.

Really enjoyable, no decant required. Beautiful balanced fruit, relaxed and ready to enjoy.
