  • Dark opaque. Nose dominated by oak. Lots of oak on the palate again. A very strange astringent/bitterness on the finish. This wine feels very manipulated.. Not my cup of tea (or wine as it were).

  • This blend of syrah and cabernet has been somewhat of a let down for us. Its been about 20 months since the last bottle we opened. On one hand, the wine seemed a little sweet with dark fruits, yet on the other hand there was a sourness with some slight green vegetative notes (maybe from the cab). There is a little note of chocolate. The tannins are pretty well resolved and there is decent amount of acidity remaining. We have one bottle left and to be honest I'm not sure what to do with it.

  • 87-88. Nice savory style red. A bit of astringency upon open. Somewhat like a Havens. Medium bodied. Savory, fruit with some dark sour cherry offset by lots of savory earthiness. Interesting wine, but something isn't quite compelling. The barnyard is slightly overwhelming the balance. Brett coming forth?

  • Similar notes as last time, but this wine has gotten better each time we have had it. This has more fruit than the previous bottles. Dark cherries and blackberries, Fine tannins, nice acidity, briary notes. 87-88

  • We had the kids grab a bottle of wine from the cellar and blind us. I thought the nose was simple but very fruity. Ann thought it was non-descript but nice. In the mouth it was a little tart (ann said sour); dark fruits (but not enough fruit); fine tannins and a healthy dose of acidity. Ann thought it had a bit of a harsh finish. I detected some briary and chocolate notes and a hint of green pepper. I guessed a cheap bordeaux or a california cab blend. Ann guessed california and 2005. This is a Cali Cabernet - Syrah blend.

We have had this before at Patti's and daves house and both times thought it was very tanninc/astringent with not enough fruit. This was definitely better but certainly not a great wine or worth the price. We hope it gets better with some time, but WS may be right in that it doesn't have enough fruit behind the structure to improve.
