CellarTracker categorizes this wine as a "Red Blend." but. as you can see from the back label, this 2019 bottling is a varietal wine made from the Paseante Noir grape. Paseante Noir is a hybridized grape that has been recently developed to be resistant to Pierce's disease. I could not resist the opportunity to try this wine made from what is for me a new grape. Translucent ruby color. Rustic foliage on the nose. A quick hit of candied red fruit on the tip of the tongue, but that "candied" sensation seems to diminish quickly. Some mid-palate stoniness. Acid spritz on the edges of the tongue. Something of a fungal/mushroomy sensation under the rear palate. Not a terribly full-bodied wine, but, certainly, not a wimp. A pleasant wine. Obviously, I had no idea what to expect from this wine. If I were to try to peg it, I would say it is similar to a Zinfandel, although, I might also call out Syrah. I think it would be interesting to try one with a couple more years of bottle age.
