  • Solid Chardonnay. Good fruit (melon and apple), judicious oak, and pleasing freshness. Juicy and bright, medium body (12.5% ABV). Clean as a whistle. Uncomplicated and fairly anonymous, but it does what it says on the tin.

  • Pale, dry and disappointing at first - not much nose, not much character. Given time and a slightly higher temperature, it showed better. Some nose, but fairly anonymous. The palate showed some lemon but with (honeydew) melon and hints of baking apple developing. Quite smooth with not a lot to complain about. However, it was pretty run-of-the-mill for a Penfolds wine (it was not expensive, though).
It improved a little over a couple of hours. Perhaps, like the Koonunga hill Shiraz/Cabernet, it may improve with cellaring but I am sceptical.
A third of a bottle was retained and tasted next day. Most of the fruit flavours had gone leaving vegetal, unripe melon flavours and some quite fat, slightly buttery acidity. Quite long but not in a nice way. Still disappointing. I have reduced my score a little.

  • Flat on the nose. Medium bodied, dry, showing unfocused yellow fruit with some oak. Mediocre chardonnay. Wine tasting at Celebrity Constellation.
