  • Champers and Napa Cabs Blind - Fun Times! (Chateau Simms): This was part of a blind Champagne tasting that featured:

    1. NV Ulysse Collin Blanc de Blanc Enfers (Extra Brut)
    2. 2015 Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill
    3. 2015 Cristal
    4. 2012 Leclerc Briant Château d'Avize, Blanc de Blancs, Brut Zéro
    5. NV Selosse Lieux-dits Extra Brut Ay La Côte Faron
    6. 2007 Billecart-Salmon Cuvée Elisabeth
    7. NV Selosse V.O.

2012 Leclerc Briant Chateau d'Avize Brut Zero - This is on the oxidative side of the spectrum. Loads of citrus, tart apple and minerality. Blind I thought maybe one of the Selosse Champagnes. First time tasting and I was pleasantly surprised on the reveal. 94+ to 95 and very enjoyable!

Note: I typically love a non-oxidative style more than the oxidative style when drinking them without food, but with salty foods (think caviar), I actually preferred the oxidative style which went remarkably well with the food!

  • Also a tad on the oxidative side. This had a bit of a chewiness to it. Also super interesting and I liked it a lot.

  • Eyes Wide Shut - Day 2 (A quiet place): Nose: A bit of a sour starfruit note, and bit of a stink like slightly sour grapes. Maybe a bit oxidized as well. Loved that.

Palate: Reflected on the palate completely. A bit tart and sour not in a good way. A bit of bitterness from something like the pit of a stone fruit on the palate help soften the sour blow a bit, keeping things a bit more afloat.

This kinda reminded me of a starfruit that's a baby face, turned heel, and then back to baby face with scars. I should've let this sit for a while. Would've loved to see how this would've evolved with some time.

  • Apple feel across , bright some soft touch of bruised apple, round and toasty good rich feel across. Well polished wine and a generous wine for sure. Good all rounder . 91-92

100% Grand Cru Chardonnay , Disgorged June 2022 with 2g/l dosage

  • Reminding me of a Marguet Le Parc I had recently, this LB is an exquisitely built BdB, with a beautiful yellow and green pear-driven profile, carrying additional white travertine-meets-yellow citrus notes that circle the flavor wagon in perfect formation. This drinks young, needing some air to allow it to unfold, but it keeps on truckin' throughout consumption. The energy is precise and direct, but with a voluptuousness that repeats the prominent stone fruit and finishes with both succulence and saline liveliness.

I'm a total fan. (Pushing 95-96+ points). Hold a bit for additional complexity. Lots of verve here, but it is already so balanced and carries perfect flavor distribution.

100% Grand Cru Chardonnay. 2012 vintage. June 2022 disgorgement. 2 g/L "Brut Zero." 12% ABV.
