Had the San Guglielmo BdM 2018 as part of the myths and unicorn tasting at Vineria Aperta Montalcino in Castelnuovo dell’Abate. I’ve never had this bottle before, and I assume it is difficult to procure outside of Montalcino. Quite fitting for the name of the tasting (I would assume this wine is more myth than unicorn). Personally, I thought this wine was interesting and stood amongst its peers in the tasting, although it lacked complexity and finesse compared to some of the more established winemakers it was still very enjoyable. It has a rich aroma of ripe cherries, plums, and blackberries, with a hint of oak and spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied with firm tannins and lively acidity, providing a solid structure for the complex flavors of fruit, mineral, herbs, and earthy undertones. Overall, it was a great wine. Not sure if it’s worth seeking out but I definitely wouldn’t mind drinking more of it!
