To the eye, there is absolutely no sign of aging. The color is a deep, dark purple which is just as opaque as it gets. Let the wine sit and breathe for a minimum of 30 minutes. The nose is quite complex: perfumed as it is co-fermented with 4% Viognier and beneath that you can smell notes of bloody, rare prime rib and dried cherries.
The mouthfeel is seductively smooth with the flavors being both of beef and berries. As is fans out the fruitier notes take over and coat the tongue and teeth with subtle tannins.
Glad I held onto this as long as I did and wish I had more.

Tooth-staining blackish purple. Awesome aromatics that are everything I had expected - gorgeous floral and herb infused black fruits. Early on, I'm getting a quirky, tart-ish acidity. However, well aware that Arrowood's wines are anything but pop & pour's, I've an abundance of patience and optimism... Over an hour in, the flavors and mouthfeel are fleshing out; revealing a meatiness that's nearing beef blood, along with a real sense of weight and richness. And, those aromatics are exploding and keeping my nose stuck to the rim of my glass! (the acidity is still sharp and so I'm putting it away for the night.) Two days later and I'm still getting an elevated; almost intrusive tartness in the finish. That and a steely minerality, which I'm not a fan of - often found in young, modern Argentine Malbec. Upon further contemplation, this wine might be mistaken for an Aussie Shiraz, if tasted blind. All else is in check with a mouthfilling texture; spicy gaminess and richly fruited entry. I'm sincerely bummed that I'm not enjoying this, as it had all the makings of a dream wine for me. (I'm saving one last glass to see if by chance, some additional time doesn't work to resolve that finish.) Two days more and unfortunately, it went nowhere...except downhill. Although the funky acidity has resolved, so has the fruit and aromatics; reducing it to a hollow shell. (a potential 91 with a significant reduction for that acidity - perhaps flawed???)
