  • Croatian orange wine from Istria: Malvasia Istriana. 14,5 % alcohol. Macerated for 7 days. Aged in acacia barrique barrels for 12 months.

Decanted prior to tasting and then stored in the decanter during the evening.

    Strong amber color.

Fresh, powerful and somewhat funky aromas of boiled yellow apples, ripe apricots, yeast, orange, beeswax, vanilla, exotic spices, dishwater and minerals. Powerful, sharp and somewhat funky flavors of orange peal, orange, apple cider, black tea, ripe apricots, medicinal flavors, mint and exotic spices.

Dry. Medium body. Medium acidity. A few sticky tannins. Barely okay balance. Okay structure. Rather complex. Powerful.

Medium finish with orange peel, black tea and beeswax.

A very orange, orange wine, and not in a good way. Over-extracted, It’s harsh and funky with sharp and powerful flavors. This might be a case of bottle variation or it’s just one of those very characteristic wines that you either love or doesn’t quite understand. Works best with food (fried chicken) and performs best when it’s close to room temperature. It does improve, and soften up, with air. Pretty impossible to predict how this wine will develop with aging. 83/100
