  • Very acidic without much body.
    Didn’t finish, I wouldn’t buy this again.

  • Luscious blackberry aromas in the decanter, followed by a 2-plus hour decant. Well-defined legs. Medium purple in the glass. Blackberry, alcohol aromas. Palate: fruit-forward, definitely on the dark side. Blackberry, plum, spice, smoke, pepper. Medium acidity, smooth. Tannins more muted than I expected, given its reputation. Medium rather than high. No doubt the decant helped. Bold, full-bodied. Medium dry. A hint of sweetness.

Had second glass with food (Penne pasta with fresh greens, butter, cheese, olive oil, mushrooms, bacon, onion and garlic). I felt that the wine overpowered the dish a bit, as it didn’t have any particularly bold flavors. Barbecued meats or cassoulet were recommended; they might have worked better IMO.

The description on the back of the bottle went with blackberry pie with a buttery crust and vanilla ice cream. That might have been optimistic, but this wine is quite tasty nevertheless. Will buy again.
