medium ruby and light-plus body. quite a bit of funk on the nose that does give way to dark cherry and blackberry with whiffs of spice, crushed dried herbs and lavender. very fresh in mouth and with moderate concentration of raspberry and blackberry, baking spices and herbs provide complexity. it grows toward the back end. moderate tannins and persistence.
a bit taut yet rewarding, this wine could still develop some more.
13.5% AbV; 100% Syrah from three different sites; some ~35% whole cluster inclusion; around a year and a half ageing on neutral French oak barrels.

I'm very impressed with this wine, and think it's a great expression of Syrah. However, it's hard to drink alongside Minimalist's "Stars in the Dark" and "No Place Like Home", just because of how impressive those were. This is a little less complex, and more fruity & fun. Great wine, but could be at a little lower of a price point considering it's only $5 less than the other two.

Minimalist Wine Tasting: This is a super lovely wine. It is really tough drinking this next to the Stars and Home wines and not have it be overshadowed. Very clean, fresh, and perfectly balanced. It doesn't have the complexity of the other bottles but it is delicious. I wish the price was a little further apart from the single w.o. wines (like $30/45 instead of $40/45).

Lay & Wheeler South Africa tasting (Glazier's Hall): Cool, tense, energetic, ashy. On the darker, more savoury side. Black fruit, lots of acidity, smooth tannins.
