good black fruit(blackberry, black cherries and plums), mocha, and tobacco on the nose. thin mouthfeel, supple tannins, soft acid and a bit of alcohol on the finish. not a very interesting wine, but not too bad either. ok vino for the table.

This bottle was a little bit disappointing compared to the 4 others I have had. I think it needed more time to open up. This is always a problem I have with the barberas. I don't decant them enough in advance.

The objective here was to compare this with a 2005 Piancornello Rosso de Montepulciano as a food to go with pasta (pesto sauce). Decanted 3/4 hour. When opened, the barbera had distinctive fruity and slightly thin unpleasant body. I was disappointed. After breathing for 3/4 hour it was a different wine. It easily outclassed the Rosso de Montepulciano. (2005 Piancornello) This was a little unfair since I had opened the Piancornello the night before and used Winekeeper (nitrogen system). OK so we have to do this again to be fair to the Piancorenllo. However, I was very impressed with the Barbera as a wine to go with the food. Both wines got 2 black glasses in Gambero Rosso 2008.

Very tannic and acidic. After a couple of hours it mellowed out. This wine was thinner than I like.
