  • I hesitate giving this a score, because it's just simply not my style at the moment and so, I'm having difficulty warming up to it (even after returning it to the bottle, to rest for 2 days). That said, this is a "technically" very well made wine. Deep, black-purple with surprising clarity. Though I feel the acidity is a tad overwhelming, there is ample, sweet tannins and a sufficient black fruit component to balance it out pretty well. It's that very acidity, together with an alcohol-dominant aroma, and a mysterious absence of the mushroom/earth/meatiness that I love in Syrah-based wines that is missing for me. In fact, although it says that it's a "Syrah blend", I thought wines from this area were Carignan-dominant and it's my guess that varietal-component is prominent here...perhaps with a measured amount of Mourvedre.
(previous note: The '05 was a phenomenal QPR. My first two of this '06 came across as more "pedestrian" but maybe it just needed a tad more time? I will continue to buy successive vintages.)
