Nose: slightly warmer and more brooding than the 2017 I find the fruit even darker with that classic black pepper spice and concentration I look for in their Malbec year to year. Some noticable but tasteful French oak on the pop of the cork as well.
Palate: One thing I really appreciate about Trefethen’s wines is that their noses almost always translate to the palate perfectly. I just Find the ripe warmer fruit of sticky blackberries, blueberries, and more blackberries ! The wine again still has identity medium (-) but refined tannins with a hint of French oak and medium acidity keeping it alive despite its heftieness.
Overall: I haven’t had a Malbec from them I haven’t liked over the vintages this is very consistent and always delivers a quaffable experience. So, Once again a fantastic Malbec and in such a tumultuous year with the horrible fires. I’m very fortunate they were unaffected by the glass fire and the earlier harvest from the warm weather definitely was in their favor regarding smoke taint.
