2005 Syrah Tasting: Some VA on the nose, with bright tart red and some dark plum fruit with a little Brett. Soft, not overly tannic with some blue fruit on the palate. Decent length.

Aromas of plum, dark berry, leather, earth and hint of spice. Medium bodied with nice secondary notes emerging with fairly good acidity for a South African Shiraz. For the price, quite good and nicely balanced. Probably best to consume within the next 2-3 years.

This wine offers terrific QPR at $10. The initial nose is incredibly floral, predominately violets, with a hint of wood smoke and some interesting subtle hints of spice. In the mouth, the fruit is more forward - and it's of the slightly earthy, plummy variety, with a bit of mushroom and a delcious hit of cinnamon. It's almost a Pinot character in a way - definitely a more refined and elegant Shiraz as opposed to the fruit bombs you sometimes find from Shiraz from Australia and South Africa. It's a medium-bodied wine with a long finish that really keeps the sweet fruit going, with that hint of smoke from the nose, a hit of black olive and just a touch of alcohol warmth. At 14.0% this is nicely balanced between ripeness and grace, with excellent acidity. I really enjoy tasting wines that have had a chance to evolve in the bottle, and it's hard to find good ones at this price point - especially with the complexity than the Eventide brings to the table. Highly recommended.

Oh yeah, bordeaux nutss with love this, a ton of leather hits you, along with the funk, the pepper, the plum, the balance. One of the best South African wines I've ever consumed. Absolutely fantasic stuff $14. One of the best qpr's on the planet.
