this didn't appear to be tainted (as a recent bottle had seemed), but it wasn't what I would want from RSV / 2005 burg... meaningfully lean, with high acidity (which I generally like a lot) but not the body to back it up / balance... not a rebuy at the price, nor even at say $80-$100 (I paid $220!)

Light+ garnet with browning edges. A bouquet of undergrowth, sous Bois, violet, wild strawberry - reasonably expressive. A stylish rather than flamboyant wine showing a firm sinewy texture, plenty of complexity with shoe polish, old church pews, truffle, oak spices and subtle tertiary black fruits. An invigorating acidity balances the seamless powdery tannins. The length is exceptionally long, and the palate holds an excellent concentration. all in all a smart wine but was perhaps for a Grand Cru out of RSV was expecting something more. Had it for a Christmas in July party! better than my bottle at Christmas in 2019

call it 91/92 pts... this bottle was opened cuz the first was decanted at 3pm and then had at dinner and at the end we threw away the last half of the bottle... it was pretty darn -- ie harshly -- acidic / chemically... tried the 2nd bottle a few nights later to see if it was simply a bad bottle and this wine also had some of those characteristics but not to the point where it made me think 'spoiled' or 'tainted'... not a great wine that night, but then the next night it had relaxed a bunch and you could actually get the fruit coming through the structure on the palate and the nose was actually really pretty darn nice... I would wait ten years before trying again... perhaps simply not a great bottle in general but OK enough

I'm not a very good judge of taint (not sensitive to corked wine, etc), and thankfully over the course of about 5k btls in the last 14 years, I've only felt like we have had about fifteen bottles that were totally flawed, 2/3's of which were premoxed wht burg)... but this wine was definitely tainted / off... you could taste the fruit in the background, and it didn't make you spit it out (I definitely tasted it over five hours of airing out)... it simply had a chemical taste that was just covering the wine underneath... wish I could have confirmed the nature of the taint, but the sommelier at the restaurant wasn't sure either

Mid+ garnet to orang-ing rim. Fairly intense aromas of sois-Bois, black cherry and black plum. There is a pleasant richness on entry with a mix of plum and cherry skin, giving a textural experience and a bite of acidity. The mid-palate has plushness with a twist of spice and rhubarb, fairly grippy but fine tannins with some fruit. One can sense the breed of RSV but not the class—reasonable example but nothing exemplary.
