  • Canadian wineries (Niagara on the Lake region): I visited 4 Canadian wineries, so I do not claim to be a Canadian wine expert. But I know a thing or two about quality wine in general. With that in mind, I am not really sure why they make these ice wines from red grapes, or honestly why they make any reds at all in the Niagara region, or even chardonnay. . But let me stick to this ice wine. Lots of sugar upfront and then some generic plonky red fruit on the mid palate and finish. The sweetness makes up for the red grapes not getting ripe in this area. Overall probably tasty to a majority of the population because of the sweetness, but they likely aren't up for the $60+ price per half bottle. To those that have been around the wine block , this is sweet and simple as dessert wines go, and less balanced than the white Canadian icewines, which aren't great either in the grand scheme of dessert wines in my opinion. 87-
