  • WSET2 Course Notes; 10/22/2023-11/5/2023 (WineHouse, Los Angeles): Appearance: Medium lemon with green hues.
Nose: Medium intensity. Nectarines and almost apricots. Blossom of honeysuckle. Honeydew melon. Vanilla, caramel and even toffee.
Palate: Dry, medium acidity (esp. after the SBs). Medium to high alcohol, medium body and intensity. Vanilla really shows. White peach. Surprising and almost clashing (with other notes) grassiness. Medium finish.
9/18. Very good. This was my first 100% Viognier. I now understand why I love it as a blending partner (for example, in Ornellaia Bianco and Ixsir El White). However, I don't think I will go for a pure Viognier often.

  • Pale yellow with straw hues at the edge. Aromas of stone fruits like peach and apricot. Medium bodied and dry. Flavors confirm peach and apricot plus pear and a touch of minerality...as well as a warming note indicating medium+ to high alcohol. Long finish.

Note: alcohol reported as 13%, but I find this unlikely given the warmth of the 2020 vintage. Probably closer to 13.8-14% in my estimation.
