Community Tasting Notes (3) Avg Score: 91 points

  • Same score as previous note. This wine is a victim of the youth of the vines, and nothing else. It is fantastically well balanced, soft on the tongue, and integrated at this point, but the fruit just never had the backbone to really develop into the complexity that the newer vintages of McHenry are showing. This is probably showing about as good as it is going to, so I say drink up while you let the 04's and 05's gain some age.

  • I think this was the first vintage of the Estate Bottled after having to replant, so the vines were very young and it shows. Completely transparent and pinkish orange in color. Sweet strawberry and cranberry flavors with just a touch of the earthy flavors that are more prominent in other vintages. As with all McHenry wines, this is well made and balanced with a nice touch of acidity. Still better than most pinots out there for the price, but in comparison to other vintages of McHenry, this is one on the weaker side.

  • This is the best Pinot that I have yet had. Very complex and powerful while still being subtle and elegant. Upon opening you can tell that this is special. As soon as I popped the cork, the room filled with aromas of sweet fruit. Decanted for a couple hours, then overnight. Initially in the glass there were aromas of blueberry, plum, oak, mushrooms and dust. The mouthfeel was exceptionally silky with flavors of forest floor, redwood, dust, strawberry, and plum. As time progressed, the wine grew focused and more powerful. These same flavors were present on the second day, with the addition of raspberries. The silkiness was still very prevalent as well. Overall a great value, tasted much better than some much more expensive wines I have had.
