Scoring this wine 92 over the course of a full and glorious case enjoyed over seven years. At best it was an explosive zin of depth, clarity, bruised fruit, and significant alcohol, living up to expectations good and bad. It remained youthful for years. But this last (and final) bottle tastes soft and tired. This many-time-stunner may finally be coming undone.
The '06 Giuseppe & Luisa is everything it intended to be. A Helen Turley-styled zin -- a high octane bruiser that makes no apologies. The alcohol is a high 16.4% and there's no mistaking it. On the palate it was a sweet, ripe, rich raspberry syrup with rum-soaked cherries. But, for all its outlandishness, it paired surprisingly well with a similarly rich and unapologetic, thick cut bacon steak sandwich.
