Rockss and Fruit

  • By Lyle Fass
11/1/2007, (See more on Rockss and Fruit...)

(Steinmetz Brauneberger Juffer* Spatlese Feinherb) In the classic richly fruited and textured style that I know and love from this producer yet with a savory freshness. Loads of stone fruits, rich tangerines and a nice buttery mouthfeel. Astounding purity and freshness along with a big, whopping, juicy, fruit-filled finish. This wine was wonderful because it truly had a disctinctive, dare I say, "umami" type of character that I have really never encountered in Mosel Riesling. This has to be due to the wild yeast fermentation. Stefan Steinmetz's wines are very special.
