  • 1 hr air. Outstanding Chianti-oid style wine, exhibiting an exhilarating mix of Sangiovese and Sagrantino, along with Montepulciano (harder for me to discern because of flavor overlap with the other two varieties). Wow. Ready to go with only a little air. Tart cherry/cranberry, tomato leaf, earl grey, telltale raw beef / blood. Substantial and very powdery tannins that are already well integrated. Probably will keep for a few years — there is plenty of acidity and tannic structure — but it’s delicious now. Outstanding value.
    Score : 94. Relative to expectations: +++

  • Really nice now with a 60-90 minute decant.

  • Notes from 15 minutes after opening. Dark red color. On nose, savory/sweet cherry with cherry cough syrup, red licorice and cherry pit. On palate, similar flavor profile to nose. medium+ body, medium+acidity, medium tannins and very long finish. Still young but was beautiful after 1 hour of air. Originally wrote down 93+/- but 94+ with an hour or so of airtime. Loved this.

    Per importer's website, wine is 70% Sangiovese, 15% Sagrantino and 15% Montepulciano. An awesome combination of sweet/savory.

  • If you like Chianti and other Sangiovese based wines, buy this if you see it. Fantastic, very distinctive, fruit forward, good with or without food, modest acidity with firm supporting tannins. I wonder if this is a Sagrantino?
