German Riesling - Unsung Stars of the Wine World (with Stephen Brook) (London): Pale gold in the glass - not especially bright and perhaps even a bit dull. A light nose - a bit smoky, but very closed indeed. Sweet attack. Very rounded but the sweetness dominates the fruit. With a bit of aeration, some fine acidity becomes more evident which stops it becoming at all cloying. Good length.

Gesellschaft zur Förderung des restsüssen Riesling: 1. Session (Blankendorsel): No formal notes taken. From 1/1 bottle. Powerful Rausch Auslese in a great drinking window at the moment. Still lots of ripe fruit, racy acidity and with only a little bit of petrol. Long and lingering. Beautiful! 92-94

A private dinner (Restaurant La Belle Epoque ***, Lübeck/Travemünde, Germany): Elegant, refined, delicately sweet, complex citrus aromas (tangerine, orange peel, yuzu), slate, ripe acidity, good length.
