Full bodied. Deep extraction and well blended. Satisfying to sip and great with food. Long finish. Soft tannins. Paired well with freshly BBQed brisket.

A splendid Cote du Rhone-style blend with a heavy pour on the Mourvèdre. Loaded with spice and pepper; fruit is juicy but quiet at this age, mostly tart cherry, plum, and something a bit more nuanced (pear?--maybe from the Carignan?). Milky, voluptuous mouth feel, like biting into smooth candy truffles. Hints of sweetness at the edges that feel, on a wine like this, extremely decadent. If Late Bloomer is dark chocolate, this is white.

This is another bruiser from this famed boutique producer. Dark purple in color and much richer and deeper (undoubtedly due to the Syrah and Mourvèdre in the blend) as compared to the Grenache based Late Bloomer. At the same time, this also strikes me as almost muted in terms of fruit intensity but controlled which gives it a sublime vibe. Given the youthfulness of this wine, I believe that this wine’s better days a still further down the road. Perhaps another 5 years will bring out the best in this. The third wine tasted at Herman Story’s tasting room in Paso Robles.
