Blackcurrant in the lead, cherry, some pleasant earthy and herbaceous notes of cedar, bay leaf, and just a smidge of roasted green pepper, all facilitating some of the more savory flavors. Given the rather assertive tannins (after 9 years!) and some of the flavors, there's no way I would have pegged this as a Merlot-dominant blend. Enjoyably complex and intriguing, let's call it a Super Umbrian.
