Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • A new wine from Alvaro de Castro (Quinta da Pellada) and a nice one specially considering the price (16€). A very burgundian medium red tone, with a precise nose of ripe strawberries, forest berries, earthy and slightly gamey. Really feels you are smelling a darker fruited Pinot or maybe a Gamay. Medium bodied full of fruit, tannins and acidity coming a bit out so the wine begs for food (as it should). It has a well managed stemmy/earthy edge balancing the fruit and giving loads o pleasure. There's also a huge minerality coming through both on the nose and palate. This needs 2/3 years to better integrate but its a well made, delicious wine with clear similarities to the land of Burgundy...something the Dão always claimed. Price is amazing for the quality.
