Tasted with a 2006 Eligo to see the difference. On its own the Entity was certainly a good wine, rather on the Pinot side of Shiraz (lots of sweet reddish fruit, very clean and pure, thoroughly enjoyable now). No sign of any decline after 15 years in the cellar. The Eligo was significantly different: much more complex, though probably still developing. Black fruit and softening tannins, not (yet) as easy to enjoy as the Entity but promising to become a great wine. It doesn’t have the specific mouth-feel of an RWT but seems more complex and even bigger. A master winemaker’s creation.

Tasted with a 1995 Grange, which was in perfect condition and fully characteristic. Plainly not as good (no surprise at a tenth the price) but very enjoyable in a lighter, simpler style, with no shortage of fruit and fair body and depth. Without the direct comparison it would be a classic, very well made Barossa Shiraz. A better comparison a few days later was a 2002 St Henri, originally made as a less oaked sibling to Grange but still rather bigger and apparently fresher than the Entity. Not sure how long the Entity will last. Must try the same vintage of Eligo next time.

Top class. 13 years on, still a big wine. Taking on a red brick colour, there is still some fruit to complement the secondary characters. Smooth tannin, worth the wait.
