  • I have enjoyed this hedonistic wine for many years. Sweet and full of fruit in youth (mainly dark cherry, damsons) but it ages quite gracefully over a few years. A fun alternative to the usual fizz as an icebreaker but it can handle marinated chicken and smoky meats such as sausage, indeed an early touch of hardness on the end taste disappears with food. We also quite enjoy it with chocolate- or forest fruit- based desserts and some fruity cheeses.
Not a wine for the fizz connoisseur but an enjoyable change and pretty good value.

  • Served a little chilled, but not cold. The nose is restrained, but there's a little berry fruit and chocolate - a definate red smell. Colour is deep and dark, although it's strange seeing the frothy mousse around the edges, tinged with purple. This is very fizzy and fruity, very easy to drink although too much gas. Some sour cherry on the mid-palate and finish and just a little bitterness at the end. In the glass, with some of the gas dissipated, it lost a little character and started to taste a bit cheap and fruity. Went well with a mildly spicy coconut Malaysian curry sauce. 84-85pts.
