  • Nose has notes of dark berry & earth tones. Fruit forward and medium tannins.

  • Rich, round wine. Lots of that typical Aussie Blackberry and vanilla extract thing going on, but the bottle age seems to have let this calm down a bit. No way it tastes like a Merlot though. I would have gone for Shiraz. Serve it with burgers and be happy.

  • Did a side x side blind taste with the non-reserve 2005. Either the 2005 is a better year than the 2004, but I cannot justify the higher price of the reserve. If you can find it - buy the non-reserve. Nice wine - will lay down for 5 years.

  • We tasted these #wine (s) in a blind format - first without food - then with food. Two wines - the JC Merlot Reserve 2004 at $15.00 per bottle, and the non-reserve 2005 at $8.00 per bottle. While we found the non-reserve to be a bit lighter in body, we both agreed that the lesser expensive non reserve Merlot was quite equal to the reserve, and that the price of the reserve was unfounded. Both opened up with a good nose, and both were well balanced and very drinkable. BTW - I never find much of this Merlot available - when it goes on sale it gets sold out fast. Some outlets will offer this at $6.00 per bottle - and if you find it at this price BUY BUY BUY! Cork was good and will age nicely for 5 plus years.

  • Dark ruby bordering on purple. On the nose a sweet smell of maple syrup dominates with undertones of cassis and wooden blueberry...a tiny hint of leather. Palate is soft with flavors of crushed blackberry, vanilla, and blueberry. Relatively sweet. Finishes with powdered cocoa and cedar. Tannins at this point are somewhat light, but still have a nice dusty quality to them. Acidity is actually pretty decent. Not as flabby as I thought originally on my first taste. Pretty solid structure. A nice quaffing wine. Easy and pleasant. Good value.
