  • Understated Paso Robles Merlot that has a regal red color, but a tight, closed and
restrained nose to start. Initially offered dark cassis, dense and rich black raspberry
with dusty berry in the peripheral. Three hours elapsed when this wine developed
a musty nose of fresh sage and forest floor, then glided into an impressive midpalate
flaunting brewed coffee, spice and a hint of mint. Well balanced and tannins in check,
this red delivers a full windup on the long, distinguished finish marked by sleek black
licorice and dash of cedar. Drinks well now but can go into 2012 with ease. Held up
quite nicely over a 4 night period. A fine effort by Shannon and his wine team.

  • This was almost a 90 pointer. Decanted for a couple hours. Nice complexity. Nose was a little weak in intensity, but there were some nice hints of pine and spice. Wonderful velvety taste that has a hint of sweet cherry fruit. Very enjoyable. Seems great right now, but it may last for another year or so if you need it to. Decant it well to allow it to open up.
