I enjoy young Santa Barbara syrah so I popped this baby. Aromatically there is interesting. Juniper, stems and dark fruits. This wine is very ripe which is fine with me but it continued to show heat. Not fine with me. It is sweet and juicy. Complex flavors and that go on for a long time but it all seems a bit disjointed at this stage. If the heat somehow goes away, this would be an "A" wine.

Extremely hot out of the bottle, even after giving it 2 hours to decant it was still extremely hot. First sip was overpowered by the alcohol, but over the next hour of drinking it began to calm down. Very rich ripe fruit, not very complex but well balanced other than the 16% alcohol.

Family Winemakers of California (Pasadena, CA): This wine turned out bigger and better than the barrel sample I had 3 months ago. Huge aromas reminiscent of Côte-Rôtie followed by notes of blueberries, ripe plums, and candied necklaces. An exuberant and lavish wine.

Tasted from barrel. Notes of blue fruits and plum skin with hints of lavender, violets, and pink peppercorns.
