  Opulent aromas and a rich ripe palate define this wine. Texture is wonderfully smooth but still has enough acidity to complement rich foods. Group favorite wine on Christmas Eve.

  This effort is somewhat of a revelation. Normally, I would not comment on absence from something in the first sentence, but I feel I have to: There is absolutely not the slightest hint of dill or tomato sauce in this Rioja! The fruit is clean, mature and very expressive with tones of morellos, cool herbs, a subtle whiff of mint and some oak. The palate is balanced, but despite its age there is an abundance of mature tannins to be found. There is also a rather unsubtle oak which appears in the end palate. Overall impression is very positive. This is a high quality Rioja, well worth seeking out if possible.

  From very primary to very restrained in 1 year. Elegant but somewhat shy nose of cassis, sweet leather and a touch of white pepper. Floral and savory on the palate, just a bit muted at this point. Probably won't hold up as well as some earlier vintages did.

  Still very primary, with some grapey notes, vanilla and blackberry pie on the nose. Firm structure and fine acidity. With air begins to smooth out and develop some complexity. Hold for another year to try again.
