  • Very full, deep red. Quite a lush nose, dark-fruited with a good whiff of freshly-roasted coffee beans. Ripe, sweet fruit on the attack following through to the mid-palate where reasonably fine, slightly grainy, tannins kick-in to provide structure and some focus through to the finish. So much more interesting than a previous, somewhat confected, bottle four years ago. Certainly drinking now but plenty of life left on this. Wouldn't pick it as South African, but it's certainly a reasonably elegant new-world style. Decent. ***

  • Disappointing. Filmy, somewhat bitter.

  • Decanted for 1 hour prior to drinking. Surprisingly, still some strong tannins here. Seems like it could still cellar a year or more. I think previous reviewers who were disappointed did not wait long enough or did not decant. Definitely smoke and leather but not as barnyardy as my last try. Good long finish too. I'm looking forward to trying again at the end of 09.

  • I have to agree with radish that the acidity of this wine is a bit overpowering. I still rate it highly though and have kept this bottle properly cellared for several years. I wonder if some of the lower ratings might be due to poor storage before purchase?

  • pleasant enough but a bit disappointing fo r the price, better drinking in Aussie Shiraz at two thirds the price.
