remebering our visit to that nice historical castello.. opened on a special occasion in fact to celebrate my GFs bday and to reminicse that trip to chianti..
already very ripe and succulent, tobacco nose/cigar box with plenty of cherry leather and earth, also shows red plums and spices, leaves, menthol white pepper and herbs, medium bodied - a bit too short final note
there is a funny anecdote to this: "In 1963, before the Verrazano Narrows Bridge was completed, three building stones were chiselled out of the ancient wall of the castle and carried to New York, where they were cemented into the dedicatory monument on the Staten Island side of the bridge. Three smooth water stones were then taken from the site of the bridge, carried back to Chianti, and plastered into the castle wall. Above them a plaque was affixed, stating that Verrazzano's discovery of New York Bay had made possible”a future nation in which his own people and many other races would be made brothers in freedom.”
(From Magnum) This was a huge wine with smooth finish and an excellent balance of fruit and dirt and complexity. Maybe a little short on the finish to be outstanding.
