i almost missed this vintage and there was a possible danger of over-age but Five Soldiers does have the ability to mature well and for a long time. Still quite pale in colour but not pale in taste or depth. Lovely wine which stood comparison to a 2011 drunk the same night

Deep gold in colour. Feared this may be over oxidised like previous bottle but was fine just aging gracefully. Medium intense nose dominated by a mushroom earthy note with baked apple, pear and hints of smoke and vanillin oak char. Palate is full bodied and showing more intensity and freshness with a greater balance of primary and tertiary notes. Sweet yellow apple, pear with citrus notes of lemon/lime. Mushroom, forest floor. Subtle oaking complement gives a roundness and creaminess to the finish. Very enjoyable and balanced flavour profile with good concentration but a found a little lacking in acidity and hence unfortunately this impacts the length of finish. Good but probably just past its peak. Drink now. May well have been c.92 at peak.

Medium + copper appearance. Dominated by mushroom and savoury notes. Lacked freshness and fruit. A degree of oxidisation meant although drinkable the length and expected depth were not there. Well past its best. Hopefully the other bottle will be better.

(SAQ 40$ : 2008-2010).
