Surprisingly straightforward flavor profile with plums, pepper, and minerals. The tannins are beginning to overtake the fruit, so it comes across as having good fruit initially with drying tannins cutting the wine short. Overall, this is probably slightly past its prime, and while not undrinkable by any stretch, I believe the tannins will become more dominant.

The wine is a deep ruby to maroon color. The very open and nice wine has plums, blackberries, black pepper, wood smoke, melted licorice, dried herbs, minerals, and a slight herbal note. This has medium to full body, moderate tannins, and very nice acidity. On the palate smoky, peppery fruit and minerals slowly adds dried herbs and a nice herbal element. The finish has good length and leans more towards the savory elements with the fruit in the background adding a touch of welcome sweetness. I normally don't like herbal notes in red wines, but on this wine it adds a nice counter point to the dark, smoky, elements. I assume this included at least some whole clusters which added the herbal note. I really like this wine.

Always enjoy Novy Syrah, regardless of vineyard or vintage. This took an hour to begin opening up. Little bit of pepper, but not too much...and decreases as the bottle opens more. By hour 3-4, this was finally open. I would say this scores 90 at 3-4 hours, though I don't generally wait 3-4 hours for a mid-week bottle. Fantastic QPR at less than $20.

Dark purple color. The nose is a complex blend of plums, violets, and black pepper. In the mouth, the wine is young with plum, mineral, black pepper, and violets. This rounded, medium-bodied wine has quite a bit of structure with vibrant acidity. Overall, this is a very enjoyable, structured wine that works well with and without food.

May have waited too long on this one! Cork crumbled in bottle.
