  • Not a good showing but I wouldn't rule out the cork as at least part of the reason. No obvious TCA but I don't know how else to explain the very significant bottle variation found in this wine.
Obvious botrytis character, some phenolic character and evolved aromas.
    Drink soon.

  • This was a very good showing for this wine despite the botrytis and RS.
It really comes down to finding the right food pairings. This showed great savory notes to go along with the fruit. I still would have liked a little more acidity, but this was an excellent showing.

  • It's no wonder that wine drinkers are left perplexed by wines from Alsace.
Here's a wine with no indication of R.S and botrytis and yet it dominates the wine. On the other hand, I recently opened a bottle of 96 Schueller Riesling Eichberg grand cru VT. That wine had no perceptible R.S. or botrytis. How is a wine drinker to make sense of this?
While this was certainly a well made wine, it did not at all meet my expectations. I had opened this bottle to serve with halibut, which didn't work. It would have been great as part of a cheese course.
THe hue of this wine gave away the botrytis before even smelling or tasting it.
I did find the acidity lacking in this wine given the high R.S. level.
The botrytis is a large component of this wine. There are some nice fruity and mineral components as well but the balance is off. The texture is very rich between what I believe was a great ripeness level and the botrytis character.
It's still a beautiful, well made wine with plenty of character. I will just use the 5 remaining bottles differently over the next 5+ years

  • Mature, petrol passing into ripe peachy and apricot-ish flavors. A little soft and flabby. Needs more tension.
