  • Over 25 years ago I purchased a complete flight of 1977 ports, which have been buried in the back of my cellar since then. I finally began my tasting with this bottle, because its cork was in the worst shape - wax cap broken and cork completely saturated. Much to my pleasure and surprise, this bottle was wonderful - accurately described by Electric Palate (9/2021 review) except more full-bodied than I normally expect from a port of this age. It is certainly ready for drinking, but I would be in no hurry to drink these if you still have them.

  • Purchased a 12 pack case of this in OWC from acker auctions, which is now in Delaware so I picked it up from the temp controlled warehouse. With no tax or shipping the uber steal price was only $31.12 per 750ml. The bottle was caked in hardened dust, cork was crumbly to remove so I had to use some cheesecloth to strain it. Unlike others who had bottles that perhaps were not temp control stored at some point of time, it was readily apparent from the nose and the flavors that this bottle WAS properly stored and is likely representative of how it should taste. Raisiney and black cherry fruit profile with a touch of leather, with such forward fruit that it was properly balanced with the alcohol not dominating. Garnet red in color, middle of the chart sweetness level, and lighter in body than some of the more intense vintage ports that I have had. Reset your drinking window for properly cellared bottles of this wine from now to 2032 or as late as 2035 if you like your vintage ports extra old.

  • Exquisite. Cork crumbled, but the wine was fine. Decanted, but it did not need to breathe very much. Seamless, everything completely well integrated. As noted by some others, the wine was not very deep, but the traditional Port flavors were clearly present. Regardless I gave this the 94 because it as so enjoyable. Alas, my last.

  • Another leaker, but bottle otherwise in good condition. Clear garnet colour, pleasant aromas and flavours of strawberries, raisins and some leather. Very smooth and completely evolved. All tannins have dissolved. Not complex, but very enjoyable to drink. Drink now.
