The Last Dance Magnum Dinner (The Krengels - Bannockburn IL): Magnum. My wine of the night. Mature black cherry and berry with braised meat and slowly cooked mushroom followed by faint earth and spice. Very impressive concentration with an elegant, expanding finish. Great now in this format.

Roumier's '89 Charmes is simply singing, bursting from the glass with a beautifully pure bouquet of red and black cherry, with subtle top-notes of vine smoke, fresh tobacco and grilled venison. On the palate the wine is supple, "charming" in its expansiveness and beautifully balanced, with a sweet core of fruit and none of the tannic asperity one sometimes encounters in the '89 red Burgundy vintage. Delicious stuff.

La Paulée de New York Gala Dinner (New York, NY): Brief Paulee tasting note. Served alongside the roumier/Bonnefond 1989 Ruchottes-Chambertin, which was more exciting. Mature black and red fruit aromas, slightly animale, modest spice. Same fruit profile on palate. Very well textured, more power on finish.

Seventh Annual White Truffle Dinner (Chez Weber - Chicago IL): Black fruit, still energetic and vibrant, with very good spice. Well structured, with a long, powerful finish. One of the more youthful 1989s I've had in a while.
