  • Pop -n- pour. Wonderful Rutherford cab. Nothing to fault, still drinking terrific, but won't get any better.

  • Drank bottle #1916 of 2591 produced, 14.1% abv. Got 3 of these as a wine club member back in 2001, put them in the cellar and promptly forgot about them. Wasn't in a big hurry to crack one, since I figured the '98 vintage would be less than inspiring. Finally popped one last night...and frankly, I was blown away. This is a gorgeous wine. Full bodied and still quite young and fresh from what I'm guessing was Scott McLeod's use of American Oak...but not overpowering. Absolutely beautiful deep cherry color at pouring, transitioning to dark purple throughout the 2 hours in the decanter. Delicious pure concentrated Rutherford cab flavors, some spice..positively mouth filling on the palate. Superb extraction and balanced acidity, this one is built like a Rubicon; years of cellar time left to bring this completely around. Absolutely astounding for the vintage.
