  • AP 2 576 511 20 05; 7.0 pabv. $34.99/750 ml; Arrow Wine Co; Centerville, OH. Valckenberg; Tulsa, OK; importer; Valckenberg, Worms a.d. Rhein, exporter.

    Very light green-yellow.

Vivid, punchy. Blackcurrant (cassis), mint, freshly acidic smell, with great precision and focus, even the next day has a bit of fuder-aging on lees.

Fresh, grassy, with transparent apple notes; huge, structured acidity, so much so that the 8 percent or so residual comes off quite 'dry'. Many lovers of dry wines will go for this one. I think as the acid softens up this wine will show more of its dessert mien; it comes across more like a Spätlese except for its terrific punch and power. Great length and summation; a very juicy mouthfu, with a smoky-slaty undercurrentl. Still in rather a young phase; I'd hold any you don't plan to drink during the next two or three years and give them 15-25 years. This will be a beautiful ager but it's heading into awkward territory.

93/100. Great value at this price.
