    Cork broke in two.
    Bright mid gold with yellow tinges.
    Spot on, mature riesling nose: some fresh green apples hanging on in there, but mainly caramelised apples, with honey and smoke.
    Touch of sweetness on the attack. Really lovely mature riesling palate. There's more than enough acidity to counterbalance that initial sweetness. Lovely, creamy overripe appley fruit with some peachiness, and a slight hint of clementine that give it a pleasing little lift. Excellent length.
    An absolutely terrific mature Mosel Riesling.

    The cork crumbled on opening, hence decanted.
    Deepish golden colour.
    Fairly powerful nose - very mature riesling aromas: dried grapes, caramelised dried apple, a hint of tobacco-smokeyness, honeyed paraffin and some peaty-whisky like notes. Not noticeably petrolly though.
    Lovely full, rich, very mature-feeling riesling. Not sweet, but not bone dry either, although there's still a significant acidity which makes it feel drier than it is, and lends it a really fresh feel, despite its nearly 40 years. Very long after.
    Improving all the time it's been open in the decanter.

    Dinner 17 July 2010: Deep gold colour. Attractive minerally nose with some good, slightly raisined fruit. Remarkably fresh on palate. Slightly honeyed, but it's lost all its obvious sweetness. Really nice weight and balance on palate. Really improved after decanting and with further exposure to air. Really very impressive.

    (AP Nr. 2 577 264 9 76) Medium lemon gold. Citrussy nose with a smoked salmon oiliness and layers of minerals. Excellent attack - clean and incredibly fresh for a 28-year old wine. I can almost detect that smoked salmon on the palate too: the rich waxiness and smokiness of older Mosel Riesling. Good fruit. Fills really well. Rounded and full, with great complexity. Very good finish. Very good acidity throughout. Very Good Indeed.

    Old Riesling nose with a nice waxiness and minerals but not overly petrolly. Still quite fresh. Quite splendid. Very good indeed.
