  • Better than I expected, or maybe the other early-90s California cabs I've bought in the past were just not well stored. Was really closed out of the bottle, but opened up decently with time and air. Surely past its prime, but is still holding in there...

  • Solid cork. Into neck fill. Color was good for its age - just a twinge of orange and bricking at the rim, but on the nose this wine was clearly past peak and it extra air was the last thing it needed. Sour and slightly sweet red and black fruits but heading towards vinegar. The sharpness of the wine as it has started to turn was overcoming otherwise smooth and long tannins. Some people might actually have finished a glass of this, but not me. Too bad I opened it so late in its life. It was clearly a lovely wine in its younger days.

  • Past it. Hints of fruit but mostly tea leaf and bramble, touch of vegetation. On the palate, medium weight for about 5 seconds then falls apart with acidity and slight residual tannins. Perfect looking bottle, fill into neck.

  • Popped and poured - cork was in flawless condition, fill was mid-neck. Color was muted but surprisingly little bricking on the edges. Not much fruit left on the nose or to the taste - gave way to secondaries of earth, forest floor, graphite and a hint of barnyard (but not offensive). Tannins were still very much in tact but the finish was short and the wine was a bit hollow. All said - I was surprised at how well the wine has held up, picked up on auction and it was obviously well kept.

  • Dark red-garnet color. Low intensity nose of bell pepper, mint, anise seed; somewhat oxidized. Medium-high tannin, medium acidity. Quite structured in the mouth, with loads of medium density tannin and a bracing lash of acidity. Some cherry fruit, but it's buried and drying out. Drinkable perhaps, but the the finish is bitter, astringent, and increasingly so after two hours air. Drink up.
