  • It's hard to believe that this estate, dating to 1464 and as recently as the 1960s and 1970s considered by many as the greatest Rheingau producer, no longer exists, with the vines having been sold off. In a brief late-effort to revive the estate, Ulli Mell, who now makes such sensational wines at Bassermann-Jordan, was hired to make the wines here, including this one. The wine is off-dry, medium-light, and smooth (10.0% stated alcohol) with almonds, a hint of coconut, candied orange, and perhaps some tropical fruit hints. It is calm and balanced with good length, a joy to drink on its own as an aperitif. APN 025 08. Cellared since original release.

  • off-dry at 8.5% alcohol, nose of pear, marzipan, almond and quince with a bit of honey. palate is a bit thicker than I remember and could have a used a tad more acidity, however still a really nice wine. balance is superb with a long finish at the end, paired with Indian food at Dosa and went exceptionally well with the food.

  • Deutschland, The 2007s (Wine Exchange - Orange, CA): This opens with complex and slightly pungent aromas of botrytis, honey, pear, and tropical fruits. The zesty botrytis character continues on the palate along with flavors of persimmon and pineapple. The fruit is quite concentrated which combines with solid acidity for a bracing finish. I find the interplay between tropical and spicy elements in this wine to be quite engaging.
