  • Not sure if this wine was ever good, but certainly in late '15 it's not drinkable. Like a spoiled, tart grape juice.

  • for the money this is excellent - nice and grippy with loads of tasty dark fruit. Surprised to find out thhis is mainly grenache - it looks much darker. The dark raspberry and currant fruit on the finish with nice touches of herbs. Not complex, but washed down some 3 day old cassoulet perfectly.

  • Opaque ruby purple core with a deep magenta rim. There is subtle underlying sweetness to the aromas, almost like a touch of powdered berry candy. A pleasant floral nose with notes of grilled herbs, fresh soil, and black cherry. The palate has a lot of concentration with firm tannins, good acidity, and somewhat astringent fruit that opens up beautifully with air. The flavors are decidedly dark and berry infused with notes of licorice and olives. At first I thought this was going to be a little too astringent, especially on the finish, but it really opened up with air for wonderful balance. Certainly concentrated as it is a dark teeth-staining wine but the fruit does come into balance with the tannins and acidity. With that said this is still a dry full-bodied old school wine that could use a little more restraint and less extraction.

  • An overriding fruity blueberry taste that finishes with a slight cranberry tinge with tea bag astringency. A disappointment even at the price.

(AD HOC Peuch Auriol) Re-order Dear Friends, We had two large containers arrive this week and they've finally been unloaded - with that comes whatever was left at the winery from some of our most popular offers of last year (when I receive a disproportionate number of re-order requests for something, I ask the winery to set aside whatever they can spare but it's usually only a few dozen bottles) - eventually, all of these small parcels show up in a container filled with other items and so it was this week - the margins on all of the items below are very low so FIRST COME FIRST SERVED up to 6/each until we run out. You can throw darts at this list - all are more than worth their salt and are considered among the very best wines of the world for their genre - the prices should be among the lowest available as well. ALL ARE DIRECTLY FROM THE SOURCE WITH PERFECT PROVENANCE - ALL HAVE ARRIVED (no pre-arrivals): 2007 Mas Mudigliza "Carmine" (Cotes Catalanes) This was the most popular under $20 offer of fall 2008 and for good reason - it jump started the 2007 "southern insanity" with one of the more quoted offers of last year. Decanter loved the 2006 version of this old-vine Grenache and David Schildknecht's comments on the 2007 didn't hurt: "... and wait until you taste the 2007 Carmine, which has yet to be bottled but is already showing amazing complexity and polish! The proprietors have already announced a significant price increase for that wine, and well they should given their outstanding achievements." (that statement was made during a review of the 2006 Carmine, which he gave 90pts to, so you can use your imagination for the 2007) - This is the last parcel of 2007 the winery had - "significant price increase or not" we raised the price by one cent over the 2006 - look for prices closer to $25 in the US. EXTREMELY LIMITED 2007 Mas Mudigliza "Caudalouis" Blanc (Cotes Catalanes) This is Mudigliza's most limited wine - think Vieux Telegraphe Blanc meets Knoll and you will see why each vintage sells out at the winery the first day of release... EXTREMELY LIMITED 2007 Casa Marin Sauvignon Blanc "Cipreses" (San Antonio) (W&S95) This wine also struck a chord with many of you - if I recall, it was the highest rated Chilean white wine ever by the Chilean press - this is the last of the 2007: (only a few dozen bottles left at this price). 2007 Peuch Auriol "Ad Hoc" (Herault) Basically, this is just a crazy artisanal value from the 2007 southern bounty - everyday wine for a number of palate preferences - VERY HARD TO FIND: 2005 Usseglio CdP "Reserve des Deux Freres" Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA SOFR7793 SOFR7794 SOFR7795 Chile5680 Rhone4689

(AD HOC Peuch Auriol) Ad Hoc Dear Friends, Are there any low price red wines left in France this serious? I can tell you, not many... This is getting a little ridiculous but the over-achieving price/quality of the 2007 vintage in the south of France keeps amazing me and this wine will be even better with 3-6 more months in bottle (to integrate and shrug off its youth). This is another example that stood out from he crowd the first time I tasted it in March (on the same trip as the Antugnac) and I was saving it until November to give it a few more months in bottle - not anymore. I will spare you with Hemingway-esque story attached with the discovery of this winery (the offers have been long enough lately) and just say this: in today's Euro/Dollar world this wine is ridiculously low priced. Unknown no more (due to David's review) the fervor forces me to put this out today or the 2007 will be gone. If organically grown purity and varietal harmony are your goals, the Ad Hoc is a wine you can enjoy with abandon: This parcel was very difficult to obtain - take advantage while they've allowed me to order at last year's prices (before everyone else gets a chance at the wine). House wine for the connoisseur? HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for insane price/value 2007 Puech Auriol Ad Hoc (Herault) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA SOFR8150
