  • Deepish gold.
Very buttery nose, with nuts, a touch of tropical fruit and a hint of orange. Both the colour and the nose are confirming my suspicion that this should have drunk up at least five years ago.
Really interesting palate. After a touch of initial freshness, it's very concentrated: rich and buttery with a very definite Alsace pinot gris feel to it. The riesling and sauvignon in this blend have retired, leaving the chardonnay, kerner and incrocio to fight it out, with the chardonnay definitely dominating, though definitely with some spicier pinot gris and almost gewurz weight, though I don't think there's any of either in it. Still decent acidity, and while there's a richness and fairly heavy texture to it, there's no sweetness and none of the raisining that was evident in its youth.

  • Mid to deep straw yellow. Nice freshness on the nose with some citrus notes in front of tropica, buttery chardonnay fruit, some pea pods and good minerality. Very nice palate. Like the nose, there's an initial freshness with appley, peachy fruit, then a certain grapiness, but then the fruit seems to turn more tropical, before a nice streak of acidity returning on the finish. this could well be the best bottle of this six-pack. Some of the weirder "uniqueness" seems to have been toned down a bit - for example, I don't detect that hint of raisining that was there in its youth.

  • A mid yellow gold colour. Rich, minerally nose with some lemon zest. This is quite a light fresh feel on the palate – most unusually for this wine: this is very atypical of the 2002 Stravino di Stravino. It’s quite concentrated, but there’s also some fresh acidity. It’s so different to the norm, that I suspect it’s probably a faulty bottle, but the fault, whatever it is, makes it very drinkable.

  • Consistent with other bottles. Rich and very full flavoured, even more so than many Friulan or Trentino whites.

  • A mid gold appearance. The nose is quite remarkable and quite singular: rich and creamy with riesling minerality, sauvignon green peas freshness and chardonnay buttery creaminess with a hint of oxidation and passito. Rich and full on the palate with a touch of raisining evident, though it’s not sweet and there is also some fresh, clean fruit too. Very powerful stuff and pretty unique. Very Good Indeed +.
