I started out afraid it might be past its prime, but it turns out it might need another decade to get there. The material here is almost blood-like it's so dense, and it still has a layer of screechy tannin hanging on despite the generally amalgamated mouthfeel. The tarry aromas make this seem almost more like Barolo than Gattinara, but it turns more gravelly on the finish.

Apiary w/Marty, Keith and Suzanne (NYC): The nose is faint, showing maybe a bit of Maraschino cherry with alcohol. The palate is not so much austere, in that it's not dry and all structure, but neither is it giving. Like a pool, but without much depth. Dark palate, shows sweetness, some animal fur, not that dry/austere, some dark cherry sweetness. Still young and lacking in depth.
