  Wow, this totally amazed me. I never thought a 51 year old Zin or a California wine would be able to age this long this wine was singing right out of the bottle. I opened it approx 1 hour before serving, however I elected not to decant. This wine still has plenty left and could go several more years. I had been wanting a birth year wine for years and finally talked the Rodfather into selling me this one. I wasn’t expecting much, but this blew me away. These swan wines can age for a long time.

  Old California Wine Dinner....1941-1986 (Merced, Ca): This was still quite youthful, dark berry, raspberry fruit....dusty, still spicy yet delicate, some leather, dried herbs. Drank well early on, but seemed to drop off on the finish after 20mins.

But as the wine saw more air, the 'volume' was continually turned-up on the aromatics - violets, roses, more leather, dark cherries and a savory note that I just couldn't place. Palate was nice from the beginning and only got better with air, putting on weight minute by minute. Finish was long, driven by ample acidity - but gave a strong iron/iodine note on the finish that would come and go. Beautiful and complex wine that wows me with plenty of life still left.
