Under cork. Unknown provenance (from auction). Dark centre, orange rim. Earthy soy-plum nose. Initially smooth mouth entry (? low acid) then a building surge of gravelly tannin and iron ferric flavour I associate with old vine low yield bushvine grenache (and shiraz). Some confectionary essence note. Shortish finish but with still grippy furry tannin. Some resemblance to old Barossa/Mclaren Vale vintage port but without the sweetness and alcoholic heat. More a food wine than drink alone (Lamb roast soaked up tannins giving softer wine). Probably close to its peak but long plateau. After an hour developed funny unpleasant profile. So no longer decant.

This is slightly more oxidised than the last bottle I opened, but far from stale. The nose shows rich fruit notes of blackberry jam and plum, with smokey notes of barbecue smoke and charred steak. There is a hint of mushroom funkiness on first pour, but it blows off quickly. The palate is smokey and meaty, with rich flavours of blackberry/raspberry jam. Very good, but lacks some of the more complex, spicy notes shown by the previous, less oxidised bottle.

Bold, fragrant nose of cola and lavender over a background of blackberry jam and miso. Smooth, light-bodied palate, with intense alcohol and candied fruit flavours: violet, blackberry jam, black cherry, liquorice, and pepper. These fruit notes are complemented by funky hints of pastrami, soy sauce, and sweet balsamic vinegar. This is drinking very well now, with a great balance of ripe fruit flavours and interesting tertiary flavours.

2.5 hour decant. Pleasing black fruit aroma with touches of cedary wood. Concentrated rounded blackcurrant/blueberry flavours with dash of tar and good acid balance. Full in the mouth with decent length. Very fine if a bit pricey - now at its peak and perhaps till the end of 2015.

creme caramel, black cherry, sweet vibes, glycerol, spicy charry, coffee'd oak, complex, but overly sweet.
