Community Tasting Notes (5) Median Score: 87 points

  • Open 1 hour: Quite a change from the last time I tasted this. The nose is a disaster, lots of vanilla oak, old berry patch and raisins. I guess I shouldn't say it's a disaster, but it just smells completely uninteresting. The palate is nicely weighted, the flavors though are dark with old blackberry and raisins. Nice feel to the tannins but the acidity comes off sharp. The finish is somewhat nice with some tart berry fruit and pie cherry. This wine is very awkward today. I'll check in on it tomorrow, if it still tastes like this it's going down the drain. I won't post a formal score as I brought this bottle back from California on the plane, when I pulled the foil today there was a very minor sign of leakage, a streak of red down the side of the cork, but no red on top of the cork. Overall, it seems like there should be more to this wine but everything just out of balance and the fruit is dark and weird. If I were to score it it would be 73 points. EDIT: Day 2 showed more of the same. I shared with some wine friends who agreed there was nothing flawed about it other than it not being any good.

  • This wine offers aromas of blue cheese, nuts, and blackcurrant. Blackberries, violets, and coffee beans appear at the core, and wet chalk and blueberries open up on the spin.

There are foresty tones of blackberry and blueberry on the palate, with an edge of blackcurrant leaves and deep minerally, black stone components. Crushed raspberry, floral tones, and butter make an appearance and last into the finish. This is a restrained, well structured Cabernet, with refined, smooth tannins, and an overall impressive effort.

  • I liked this wine's style, a varietally correct Cabernet with a great balance of fruit/earth and a spicy acidity and firm but really nice feeling tannins. 15 second long finish with a gentle taper. The acidity leaves this almost refreshing, this would kick some serious ass with food.

  • Very delicate for a Cab. Roses on the nose, cherries and blackcurrant on the finish. Should age well.
